Good Ventilation Matters

As businesses re-open and staff return to offices, returning our focus to good ventilation is key in helping reduce the spread of coronavirus indoors.

Ensuring that the air we breathe inside buildings is as well ventilated as possible will go a long way in reducing the chance of spreading and catching the virus. Here are 5 key points when considering if the building you are in is well ventilated:

  1. Is the room stuffy?

If a room feels stuffy, not enough fresh air is being introduced, this can increase the chance of getting infected from particles lingering in the air.

  2. Is there suitable air conditioning and ventilation?

Air conditioning alone could be recirculating the air from inside the building. If air conditioning is required to be running in the building, perhaps as the only heat source, it needs to be a suitable system which works together with effective ventilation to help in reducing the risk of spreading the virus.

  3. Is there enough fresh air?

Many offices and building have sealed windows, therefore there is even more reliance on the need for effective ventilation systems. Professional advice is to maximise the fresh air supply as much as possible.

  4. Have the ventilation filters been checked regularly enough?

Although ventilation filters are not full-proof, if they are checked and maintained regularly, this can reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

  5. Is the fresh air flow effectively managed?

It is clear that fresh air is key. Professionals also advice that it is better not to be in the direct line of the fresh air flow in case someone on either side of the window is infectious.

Your staff, customers and site visitors are far more aware of the condition of the environment in which they work or attend. Ensuring the quality of the air in workplaces and public spaces has always been a statutory requirement. Now more than ever, the need to ensure your ventilation systems are effectively and regularly maintained is essential.
