Engineer's Sky Dive for Prostate Cancer UK
Meet Robin
This is Robin, a dedicated gas and plumbing engineer from our Ipswich division. Robin has decided that this year would be the year he does “The Jump” to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that is committed to raising awareness, funding life changing research, campaigning for change and providing much needed support for the people effected by prostate cancer. It can affect our dads, brothers, partners and friends, and Robin would like to raise awareness by doing this Skydive with three of his own friends.
What does this mean to Robin?
Robin is jumping with three friends, two of them have had prostate cancer and it is this that gave them the prompt to raise awareness for the charity. Robin and friends, Chris, Martyn and David grew up together, lived in the same village and went to the same schools. They’ve maintained their friendship over the years and now regularly meet up for drinks. First Chris had prostate cancer around 2016, he now gets check-ups each year. Then unbelievably in 2023, another one of them was diagnosed with prostate cancer, this time it was Martyn, who went on to have an early recovery and all check-ups are fine, so far. It was Chris and Martyn that decided to do something for Prostate Cancer UK and came up with the Skydive idea. When Robin and David were invited to join, they thought it might be a “no”, but Robin having witnessed the unwavering strength and determination of his friends, especially wanted to do this! Their journeys have inspired the group as a whole.
Experience with “Air Sports”
Around early 2000’s, Robin had plans to do a jump, but unfortunately couldn't follow through as he broke his leg, two weeks before the Jump. As time went on, Robin never felt like doing it after that. This is until the idea was reintroduced by Chris and Martyn, and for such a worthy cause, a deep sense of purpose that is close to all their hearts. None of them have any experience with air diving, but this isn’t just an adrenaline-fueled thrill, it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It would be a first, and a formidable challenge for them all!
As the foursome gear up for an exhilarating jump on Friday 26th July, let’s put our hands in our pockets and help them exceed their targets for Prostate Cancer UK, for those who have fought, and those who continue to fight, against prostate cancer.
An important message from Robin
“If anyone wishes to donate I'd be very grateful. However, as a more important request, I would strongly ask all my friends and colleagues to regularly get tested for prostate cancer. Early detection and treatment can be very successful. Don’t wait until a national screening prevention service is introduced, or you could find out too late.”
