Our Scottish Engineer and His 100km Hike

A 100km Hike and 26 Munros in 3 Days

At JCW, our engineers are known for their unwavering determination, both in their professional roles and personal pursuits. This spirit of perseverance and commitment is exemplified by our very own Scottish electrical engineer, Keith.

Keith recently undertook one of the most challenging 100km hikes, which saw him bag 26 Munros (mountains with an elevation of more than 3,000 feet) in 3 days. Not only that, he and his group of friends raised over £3,000 for charities in the process.

The Route

The 100km route consisted of the following:

Day 1 - Mamores 10 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🗻
Day 2 - Lawers 7 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🗻
Day 3 - Glen Shee 9 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🗻

The 26 total of Munros were spread out across 3 separate ranges which would take 3 days to complete.

The Charities

Keith and his team chose to raise money for Macmillan Cancer and also a local charity - Future Youth Scotland. Future Youth Scotland, based in Rosyth, are a non profit organisation that is focused on community partnership and youth focused projects and are passionate about inspiring the next generation.

The Stats

  • The team covered a total of 65 miles (two and a half marathon distances) over the three days.

  • They ascended 6800m (enough meters to climb from Everest base camp to the summit twice).

  • From the summit of Munro 1 to the summit of Munro 26 took 60 hours, with 34.5 of that spent walking.

The Engineer

We asked Keith about the experience:

“We must have been crazy to sign ourselves up to do this but we were determined to complete the route. Although it was a momentous challenge, it was all for a great cause.

“There was some drama along the way and perhaps a bit of pain and a few tears but it wouldn’t have been a challenge if it hadn’t have been hard!

“It is by far the best, most brutal thing I have ever done.

We would like to thank JCW again for sponsoring us and everyone else who dug deep to help us raise over £3000 which is well over our £2000 target.”

Well Done!

We would like to say well done to the team and of course Keith for his relentless drive and resilience. His achievement is not just a personal milestone but a source of inspiration for all of us at JCW. It serves as a reminder that with determination, we can push beyond our limits, both inside and outside of work. Keith's journey mirrors the path we tread every day at JCW, where we strive to deliver outstanding results, no matter the obstacles.

If you would like to celebrate Keith’s incredible feat, why not do so by donating to his Just Giving page, every little really does count…
