Building Disaster Recovery: Fire
Fire Related Commercial Disasters
Earlier in the year we introduced our Building Disaster Recovery capabilities and the best solutions when it comes to a fire related commercial disaster. Throughout the duration of national restrictions, unlike many other industries, our building disaster recovery team have been far from idle! We wanted to share another disaster recovery process we were involved with recently, this time - a fire disaster.
The Background
For this client we provide national Mechanical & Electrical Planned Preventative Maintenance services and look after their 54 game and entertainment facilities around the UK, most of which have in-house restaurants. This particular site, where disaster struck, is located in Bristol.
Due to a faulty commercial dishwasher, fire broke out in the kitchen area of our client’s site, in the second weekend of October. The kitchen was out of action and the restaurant closed, immediately effecting trade. Our Emergency Help Desk logged the call with our Operations Director, on Sunday 11th at 2:30pm, after the fire had been made safe by the fire department.
Our response:
We quickly arranged for our emergency disaster recovery team to arrive on site. This team included our own electricians, our fire alarm engineer and two of our disaster clean up engineers. Our initial tasks consisted of:
Ensuring the electrics were made safe.
Full deep clean to the fire and smoke damaged area.
Hazardous WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) removal.
Works were completed by 11pm on the same day.
We spoke with our Fire Alarm Technical Manager regarding this fire disaster recovery and he added:
“The pictures (below) are a little reminder, why we do our job!! Thankfully the fire alarm did what it said on the tin. The engineers that attended after the fire, have done a great job getting the fire alarm system back up and running, replacing a number of contaminated detectors.
“Carry on the good work lads!”
Before Recovery:
After Recovery:
A few words from our Client:
“Your cleaners have been instructed not to remove the (Damaged) goods from the area of the fire as our health and safety team would like to conduct an investigation into the cause.”
Upon inspection of the cleaning work:
“I am happy that they have done a good job considering the state the room was in earlier.”
And the work doesn’t stop there…
Following the initial clean up for this fire related disaster recovery, our client then requested that we provide a quotation for the restoration work, which we subsequently won and work is currently in progress. The kitchen refurbishment includes the replacement of:
Ducting
Extraction
Waste disposal unit
Flooring
We will also complete a full deep clean prior to the site re-opening in the New Year. More photos to follow…
